UTCI Calculator

Calculate the Universal Thermal Climate Index using the sliders or using the fields. Use the input to understand the relationship among variables.

Hint: Try to decrease the relative humidity and increase the wind speed simulating a hot day (E.g. in Central Europe).

Hint: Try to decrease and increase the wind speed simulating a cold day (E.g. in Central Europe).

What is the UTCI?

UTCI (Universal Thermal Climate Index) is an index that express temperature of what the weather "feels like". It takes into account the air temperature, mean radiant temperature, relative humidity, and wind speed in a human energy balance model to give a temperature value that is indicative of the heat stress or cold stress felt by a human body in the outdoors (ref. Ladybug Tools).

What are its main features?

  • thermophysiologically significant in the whole range of heat exchange;
  • valid in all climates, seasons and scales;
  • useful for key applications in human biometeorology (e.g. daily forecasts, warnings, regional and global bioclimatic mapping, epidemiological studies, and climate impact research);
  • independent of person's characteristics (age, gender, specific activities and clothing etc.).
